Dead letter to myself

Put AAA batteries into my Audible Otis and was listening to Greg Brown and Kevin Bowie while doing the elliptical trainer. Kevin has a song called “Dead Letter to Myself.” That seems to fit perfectly what the this blog is to me.
I was also thinking that this blog is like the conversation that I would have with a friend or relative or significant other if I was in the mood and they were in the mood. A rare occurence. So I just go ahead and blog.
The picture is of an old bus parked not to far from where we live. I thought it looked interesting. Especially with the snow. Click on it (or any photo) to go to the Gallery. There is another snow photo there today too.
The bus is somewhat appropo since at the Y today in the sauna there were a couple jazz musician guys talking about how to do a jazz rendition of “Here Comes the Bride.”

This is my big chance to sit and write. There are so many things I think are rumbing around in my head that should get out and this was going to be my chance. Nina’s, Saturday morning, and no commitments. But…
I was all set last Wednesday too, and then got freaked out because all or most of my memo entries on my Palm had gone missing. I was relieved to find they were still on the laptop.
But now there is a guy sitting across the way and talking kinda loudly on a cellphone, so this isn’t the great spot that I had hoped it would be today.
Snowing. First snow of the year. Was threatening yesterday. We did a minivan drive around Minnesota, a post-Thanksgiving tour of the grandmas. it rained or drizzled the entire time as the temperature hovered around 32,33 degrees. The highway department had snowplows out putting chemicals on the road, but that didn’t stop me from worrying that the roads would turn to glare ice at any instant, though they never did.
And now the rain has turned to snow with no sign of ice.
Today we’re going to visit our kids’ former violin teacher and see her new born twins.
I am pretty easily distracted. So I will switch topics. I have been working on the Linux side of my laptop. I have gotten KDE installed. It took the Gentoo Linux about twelve hours to do that, and it dicey getting it started, but it is there.
Next are looking into WINE so that I can do Windows programs–thinking about Musicmatch and Audible. Maybe even VPN to work? And to get the Palm software working so that I can use IVR to synch my Palm to Linux. And, still haven’t gotten printing to work. Haven’t even gotten back to the whole thing that I think started the Linux thing last September–doing java programming.
Not even getting close to my Jack Handy deep thoughts. I am in the mist of getting my email addresses transferred from Earthlink to Comcast. Need to comb through my emails at work and maybe through Dorothea’s email addresses. Sounds wrong, that.
Thinking about how the names and the people come and go. Dorothea has the observation that people in general have difficulty staying in contact.
